1. MAKE SURE THE READINESS OF THE CAMERA AND YOUR LOCATION
If you really crave / want the best photos, then you should consider always carrying a camera wherever you go, because you never know when that inspiration will appear. But, if the location you want to make the subject of the shooting has been chosen beforehand, make sure you are ready for that location. For example, a building that you specify as a subject is a business place, so check / find out what time the place is opened.
Besides that, you have to check everything on the subject of your shoot with the owner, or also find out the situation around your place, whether you need permission to take photos or not. Negligence due to being indifferent or unwilling to know can make you in trouble and prevent you from getting the opportunity to get your dream photo.
And finally, look at the weather forecast report for your location. Regardless of the type of image you want – the weather can ruin your day. Therefore think wisely and creatively.
2. USE THE RIGHT PHOTOGRAPHIC EQUIPMENT
It is very important to have the right photography equipment for the work you are doing. If it is related to architectural photography, with a wide angle, the lens with a wide ultra angle is the best choice.
The type of lens of your choice allows you to get a dramatic composition and gives you the ability to adjust the entire frame of the building which is your subject to be one target. However, not all buildings will enter each of your goals. This is where the camera with panorama format / natural beauty can be useful. While some cameras offer in-depth shots of natural beauty, consider using Hugin or PTGui, which are two types of software that allow you to stitch a panorama / natural beauty image together after shooting. This is also useful if you take pictures using a Digital Single-Lens Reflex (DSLR) camera.
3. USE AS POSSIBLE TIME
One of the determining factors for producing stunning architectural photos is time. Make sure that you have enough time to take pictures, for example, a day. This not only gives you enough time to get the image you want, but also allows you to have the opportunity to explore buildings that will become the object of your photos. With enough time, you can take a walk and see all sides of the building to find out which areas provide a nice and unique setting for your photos. So prepare more time if you want to produce stunning and good architectural photos.
4. PAY THE PICTURE IN DIFFERENT WEATHER CONDITIONS
Paying attention to weather reports / previews is a great way to ensure a perfect picture. This does not mean that you can only take photos when the sun is shining. In fact, you might be surprised to find that the best photos are taken when a storm rolls over your head and a cloudy sky. Swirling clouds, drizzling rain, and possible rainbows can really improve the atmosphere and quality of your photos.
5. WATCH THE EXISTING LIGHT
You might be surprised to see that the difference between a building and its surroundings at sunset at night or disappear behind the clouds when the sun shines bright at noon. To see the difference, take some pictures during the day with various building angles to see how they look. Then, come back at night and see what’s changed about the building and the surrounding environment. You will see and find that when the sun goes down, different shadows appear and the building will be seen with a different color display.
So overall, the image of the building during the day will look different from the night because of the light factor.
6. TAKE PICTURES FROM EVERY DIFFERENT ANGLE
Just as light can have an effect on the way the building looks so that it gives you the right position when taking pictures, so does the different angles. Each angle has different interests. Therefore, try to take pictures in every angle that looks to produce a variety of works instead of the same. More than that, time plays a very important role in ensuring the right angle for your photo. Because with enough time, you have the opportunity to walk around the building / building of your location while taking a few pictures to ensure the angle you want.
7. ALWAYS WATCH YOUR COMPOSITION
Placing some thoughts into the composition of your photography is very important especially if it is related to architectural photography. Always look for interesting and unique angles with different perspectives if possible. Think about the rules of third principle, and how you do it. For example, instead of taking a photo from below, why not go upstairs. If you hold your hand-held camera, set your ISO to position 400 and place your camera in a safe position. Get creative with unique and clear ideas and thoughts to produce good and beautiful images.
8. USE THE RIGHT PHOTOGRAPHIC SOFTWARE
After you finish taking pictures, there are a number of things you can do to improve the quality of your photos to make them look good and interesting. This can be done using the right photographic software program. For example, Perfect photo suite, DXo, and Adope Photoshop. If you are not accustomed to using the perfect photo suite, Dxo, and Adope Photoshop, then you can also try younger software to use namely Apple Aperture or Adobe Lightroom. That is why, use the right software to produce interesting and amazing photos that are according to your wishes.
9. WHITE OR BLACK COLOR
Another thing that needs to be considered in taking pictures of architecture (building) is determining your photographic image, whether colored or black and white. Although this decision (determining the color or black and white) is purely from the photographer himself, but there are some points that must be considered. (1) In architectural photography, when you take a picture of a building, the color of the building is the most important feature or appearance that you want to highlight. Therefore, taking color pictures may be the best choice. But on the contrary, (2) if you only want to highlight the structural path of the building, it is better to take pictures with black / white only.
10. REVIEW POST-SHOPPING BACK
Re-examining the results of the photos after finishing shooting is an interesting thing in producing cool and good photos. This examination includes: color, image sharpness, and contrast. You can use a device that is suitable for checking your photos. For example, DXo and Adobe Photoshop. Using the right device can give a good end to the quality of your photos.
11. LOOK FOR A UNIQUE LOCATION
Choosing the right shooting location gives you the opportunity to get a good picture. There are so many famous buildings around us exactly where we are, which almost all of these buildings have been subjected to repeated photos even though with different light displays and unequal weather conditions. However, this is (the choice of location of the photo) which causes why these places are famous / known by many people. However, apart from all of that, look for locations that have never been (photographed by many people), and produce good photos about that location so that people will be crazy to go see the location you produce it.
1. MAKE SURE THE READINESS OF THE CAMERA AND YOUR LOCATION
